THE PEERLESS STORY

Want to know how Peerless got here and how we operate?
Then we invite you to read our story. You’ll get a bit of history, a bit of philosophy, and an understanding of why we still stick to the very same principles we were founded on.

WE GO WAY BACK

In the very early 1930s we didn’t sell beer. No one did; it was during Prohibition.

Back then, an entrepreneurial young guy named Charles Salzman started selling near beer and seltzer. Another enterprising young man, named Jake Beim, was bottling Crescent Soda. As Prohibition ended, these two fellows each started their own individual beer distributorships, Peerless Beverage and Schwarz-Crescent.

Thirty years later, their sons, Rich Salzman and Norm Beim, saw the potential of joining forces, and merged the two companies into what is now Peerless Beverage Company.

And that’s how it began.

OUR FAMILY CULTURE

Step back and you can see all the components and systems of a very large beer distributor. But scratch the surface and you’ll find a lot more – something deeper that is foundational to the type of company we are – no matter our size.

We’re family.

Not just in the generations of Salzmans and Beims who continue to work here every day. Family is a concept at Peerless that extends to every employee, every brewery, every customer.

Our culture is thoughtful, authentic, and respectful. For our employees and their families. For our clients and their customers. And for our community in Northern Jersey – beer drinkers or not.

So we give back, and pay it forward. With numerous green initiatives that are good for the air and the earth. With policies that make it easier for the people who work with us to have careers and raise their families. With community projects like food drives and charitable donations that support the foundation of our neighborhoods.

It’s a dedication that runs deep.

MEET THE PEOPLE

The community of the more than 250 people who work for Peerless is as diverse as the state of New Jersey. That diversity is one of the keys to our success.

Between us we represent more than 23 cultures, which helps us communicate with our customers in every pocket of our territory. And, which makes people feel more at home.

Everyone in sales and management is a Cicerone® certified Beer Server. Which means we’ve done our homework, passed our tests, and are familiar with every type of beer there is.
